About

Welcome to APPALACHIAN INDUSTRIAL. We are a brand new online store whose mission is to make available apparel and merchandise aimed at supporting and cherishing the Appalachian way of life, with a heavy focus on the coal mining community, our families, our heritage, and our lands.
Although I do not have any more family in the mines, I still have friends working for Core Natural Resources. I was born and raised in a coal mining family. My grandfather spent 52 years in the coal mine. He eventually got black lung—and after fighting for all the money that they back-owed him—died of pleurisy, which was complications from black lung. I remember the days of him coming home black, giving me a big piece of white chalk. He was a hell of a man.
I grew up in a coal mining house that I dearly miss. I miss my community when it was thriving. My old neighborhood now looks like a Tim Burton nightmare. If I had 30 million dollars, I would return there, buy every house, bring them back to their glory like they’re brand new with new materials, and make them very low rent for very special candidates that meet certain qualifications. Instead of being an eyesore for the community around it, it would have big, beautiful retro industrial mining signs saying, “Welcome to Mine #3.” Beautiful little duplexes with yards manicured with shrubs and flowers, bringing it back to its original glory for young families who appreciate the low rent and rich history of their community.
We’re going to start here. I want you to wake up with a beautiful coffee mug that warms your heart and brings you back to your family ties. I want you to celebrate who we are, what we are, and where we came from, and remind everybody in this country that without us, there wouldn’t be a grand America whatsoever.
I hope you will please support us and help us grow as we bring the spotlight back to you. Sure, the coal was important, but the people—the forgotten, thrown-away, abused, and much-maligned coal miners of the Appalachians—deserve the praise that we never got.
